How to Book
It's 2026. You've been booking hotels and trips online for 20 years, so you probably think you don't need anyone's advice on how to do it.
Disney is different.
To actually get the best deals and plan a trip with minimal stress, most people need a little help. That's not a knock on you. For context: I've planned entire long-haul trips through Europe and South America on my own. I've been going to Disney for nearly 40 years. And I still get help booking most of my Disney trips.
Magic Without Misery Recommendation: Rent a DVC Villa
The Disney Vacation Club is a timeshare program where you can buy into specific resorts and then book at them year after year. Bigger rooms, kitchens, 2-3 bedroom options and more cool amenities for your stay. PLUS you are still in the “bubble”with Disney transportation, early entry, and the other deluxe resort perks. Seems pretty exclusive BUT there a loophole. You can RENT points from DVC owners.
We have done this a handful of times and highly recommend booking through David's Vacation Club Rentals

More space to spread out, larger rooms and 1/2/3 bedroom options
You can Instacart groceries! Perfect to save money or just make your life easier with snacks on hand, breakfast, late night drinks for parents! You actually could do this anywhere but its much easier to manage when you have a kitchen and not just an itty bitty room fridge.
Misery Index: 2/10
You usually need to book at exactly 11 months out if you have very specific days/resort in mind (though check out David’s for cancelled bookings where you may be able to snag a major deal)
You have to pay the full cost at booking (you can purchase travel insurance)
Housekeeping does not come every day (though you can pay for it to come more and you can request complimentary trash pickup for diapers, etc at anytime)
Often a longer walk from the main transportation spots
While we typically use Davids, you can rent DVC villas through Travel Agenys like Mindy too. However, they are usually much more expensive than renting points through owners, but with the benefit of paying over time, getting daily housekeeping, and usually you can find availability without having to book 11 months in advance.
Renting DVC is MwMs #1 Disney affordability tip - especially for longer trips (5+ nights) or larger groups.

For some context here: I am very picky and in moments of self-reflection can admit that I am high maintenance too. I do not recommend working with Mindy lightly. One of the most important reasons to book with a TA is in case something goes wrong. In 2024 I planned a special trip for W’s 5th birthday at the Polynesian. Unfortunately the Poly was damaged in a hurricane and our room was no longer available. While Poly was sold out, Mindy helped us navigate a transfer to the Grand Floridian for no extra cost (and trust me there was quite a $$ difference) when Disney originally offered to move us to Wilderness Lodge (which is great but wasn’t what we wanted on a splurge trip).
Mindy is also key for planning Special Needs Travel. As a mom to a neurospicy kid- I cannot tell you how reassuring this is to me. When we had to do that resort change, Mindy understood why I was so anxious about how a change of plans and atmosphere might impact my son.

Credit Card Points
You may be surprised to learn you can book a Disney vacation with credit card points! While official Disney resort hotels don’t allow this option, there are many great options through the official partner hotels and other off-site options that allow you to use points.
MwM Recommends: Walt Disney Swan, Dolphin, & Swan Reserve for credit card point redemption. I booked a long-weekend trip with W using American Airlines points to book the Swan for a really great deal!
There is also a Disney Credit Card . MwM does not have experience with this but it is probably worth checking out!
Airbnb/VRBO
There are many gorgeous, themed, and affordable Airbnb, VRBO, and other rentals in the Disney area. MwM does not have specific experience using rentals but we have friends that swear by them. These rentals may be perfect for large groups and/or if you don’t mind arranging your own transportation.
