We've watched too many smart, capable adults (aka people who run departments, people who keep tiny humans alive) walk into Magic Kingdom thinking it's still 1996 and they can have a fun, relaxing day with zero preparation.

Getting to a good plan starts with getting your head right, and getting your head right means letting go of the vacation you imagined. The Disney you remember from childhood doesn't exist anymore. (And let's be honest, our parents were probably doing a lot of work behind the scenes even back when Disney was way easier.)

Plan ahead, then let go. The planning happens at home, on the couch, weeks before your trip. That's the secret: the more you decide in advance, the less you have to think about in the park.
